Popy Getter Robo 1

Getter Robo was the brainchild of Go Nagai and Ken Ishikawa and introduced the concept of vehicles that could combine to form a giant robot. Each vehicle had a separate human pilot and depending on the configuration would produce a different giant robot. Getter Robo 1 is the Eagle concept designed for flight agility.

You'll notice that the toy shares many design elements with Getter Robo 2 and 3 but one thing very unique with the Popy jumbo machinders is that they come apart at the waist by mashing in white buttons on the front and back - the halves could them be recombined for extra combinations - it's a very cool idea in my opinion. Getter Robo 1 also has this nifty red plastic cape that I find quite appealing.

I really like the Getter Robo boxes as they feature actual photos of the toy in this tilted action pose - quite impressive.
